Comments of the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich on the development in the case of Denis Telyakov

Denis Telyakov, the Russian student who was brutally beaten in a Calgary detention facility after having been arrested on factitious charges that were later dismissed, has finished his treatment in Canada and will soon return to Russia. We would like to express our gratitude to the Canadian doctors, who were able to nurse Denis back to health after such severe injuries. Denis still has to go through complete rehabilitation and return to normal life at home.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Russian Embassy in Ottawa and the General Consulate in Toronto will continue to persevere in getting the Canadian authorities to complete the investigation of the case, punish those responsible, including the officials at the detention facility and the linguistic school Denis was studying at, and pay an appropriate compensation for physical and moral damages, loss of ability to work.
